More than 400 volunteers join United Way's Day of Action
June 12, 2026:
United Way of the Southern Tier’s annual Day of Action, sponsored by Siemens Energy, engaged more than 400 community members in volunteer projects on Friday.
Groups from local businesses and organizations gave their time and talents to 36 projects throughout Chemung and Steuben counties. Volunteers painted walls at non-profit agencies, planted flowers at senior apartments, helped build a house, cleaned shelves at a local library, and so much more.
“Day of Action showcases the very best of our community – people who are willing to invest their time and energy to make a difference for their neighbors,” said United Way President and CEO Maleaha Smith. “When hundreds of volunteers come together, the impact extends far beyond the projects completed that day. It strengthens the organizations that serve our region, builds new connections, and demonstrates what’s possible when we all share responsibility for creating a stronger Southern Tier.”
Day of Action is an annual event that unites neighbors to create positive change. Local nonprofit organizations register their volunteer projects with United Way of the Southern Tier every spring, and those projects are matched with individual volunteers or teams of volunteers, as needed.
United Way of the Southern Tier is grateful to Siemens Energy, Corning Incorporated, ServU Federal Credit Union, Centralus Health, and Visions Federal Credit Union for their support of Day of Action.
United Way of the Southern Tier will hold Day of Action again in June 2027. To get involved, please email United Way or call 607-936-3753.
