450 volunteer for United Way of the Southern Tier's Day of Action
June 6, 2025:
United Way of the Southern Tier’s annual Day of Action, sponsored by Siemens Energy, engaged more than 450 community members in volunteer projects Friday.
Groups from local businesses and organizations gave their time and talents to 40 projects throughout Chemung and Steuben counties. Volunteers cleaned parks, painted walls at non-profit agencies, planted flowers at senior apartments, organized shelves at food pantries and clothes closets, and so much more.
“Day of Action is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together for our community, ” said United Way President and CEO Maleaha Smith. “Each project is more than just a task that’s been completed. It reflects the compassion and commitment of our community, where we show up with heart and purpose to create lasting change and uplift one another.
Day of Action is an annual event that unites neighbors to join together and create positive change.
Local nonprofit organizations register their volunteer projects with United Way of the Southern Tier every spring, and those projects are matched with individual volunteers or teams of volunteers, as needed.
United Way of the Southern Tier will hold Day of Action again in June 2026. To get involved, please contact United Way, info@uwst.org or 607-936-3753.
