United Way of the Southern Tier seeks Day of Action volunteers

May 19, 2026:

United Way of the Southern Tier and Siemens Energy is rallying volunteers to take action and create meaningful impact throughout the community on Friday, June 12, for Day of Action, an annual event that unites neighbors to pitch in and create positive change in our region.

Day of Action invites volunteers to come together to help improve the community we all call home.

Last year, more than 450 volunteers joined United Way of the Southern Tier’s Day of Action to plant flowers at senior apartments, paint youth centers, clean playgrounds, and much more.

The annual event is part of United Way’s year-round efforts to mobilize communities to take action so all can thrive.

“Day of Action is really about neighbors helping neighbors. It’s a chance for people to come together and do something meaningful for the community we all share. Some projects may seem simple - planting flowers, painting a room, cleaning up a playground - but those efforts make a real difference for the organizations and people who rely on these spaces every day. We’re hoping to see a strong turnout again this year because when people are willing to give a few hours of their time, it has a lasting impact across our community,” said Maleaha R. Smith, president and CEO of United Way of the Southern Tier.

United Way of the Southern Tier is once again coordinating meaningful volunteer opportunities focused on supporting children, senior citizens, and individuals and families facing basic needs challenges. These efforts are part of United Way’s ongoing work to ensure children get a strong start; senior citizens feel supported and connected, and people facing crisis or natural disaster can find a helping hand when they need it most.
