United Way of the Southern Tier Day of Action mobilizes 390 volunteers

June 7, 2024:

Volunteers fanned out across the region for United Way of the Southern Tier’s annual Day of Action on Friday.

Local businesses and organizations sent 390 volunteers to 32 projects throughout Chemung and Steuben counties to paint walls, pull weeds and plant flowers, among many other tasks.

“United Way of the Southern Tier is proud to organize Day of Action, which, on a single day, provided more than 2,200 hours of volunteer time to non-profits in our community,” said United Way President and CEO Steve Hughes.

Siemens Energy is the sponsor of this year’s Day of Action, which is United Way of the Southern Tier’s premier volunteer event.

Nonprofit organizations participate by registering their volunteer projects with United Way in the spring. United Way then matches volunteer groups with the projects.

United Way of the Southern Tier will hold Day of Action again in June 2025.

Nonprofit organizations or volunteers that would like to get involved should contact United Way’s Director of Communications and Community Engagement Lois Wilson, by email or at 607-377-5834.
