United Way of the Southern Tier seeks notes of encouragement for students

Aug. 9, 2022:

A word of encouragement can make a world of difference to a youngster in our community.

As the school year inches closer, United Way of the Southern Tier is seeking notes of encouragement for children to let them know that we're all pulling for them.

A simple message such as "You can do it!" and "You've got this!" is all it takes to spark confidence.

The notes you write will be distributed to some of the local agencies in Chemung and Steuben counties that provide free back-to-school backpacks.

Here's how (or download this instruction sheet):

PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS

Supplies: You'll need card stock (or heavy) paper, markers, crayons, or colored pencils.

1. Draw a simple picture on the card cover (emoji, flowers, balloons, animal, etc.).
2. Inside the card, hand-write a simple note of encouragement.
* Please do not write in cursive.
* Please do not sign the note.
* Notes will go to school-age children (kindergarten to 12th grade).

Sample messages:
* You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great!
* You can do it!
* You've got this!
* Believe in yourself.
* The world is better because you're in it!

DEADLINE: Please drop off cards to United Way of the Southern Tier, 88 E. Tioga Ave., Suite 102, in Corning, no later than August 22, 2022.
