Day of Action Empowers Volunteers to Build Stronger Communities

On Friday, June 16th United Way of the Southern Tier rallied over 350 volunteers throughout the community for Day of Action, an annual event that mobilizes the caring power of volunteers to make a meaningful impact in more than 400 communities around the world. Here in Steuben and Chemung Counties, volunteers will deployed at 38 different projects to assist local non-profits. Last year, more than 418 United Ways in 21 countries mobilized volunteers in their communitieson Day of Action.

In addition to this annual event, United Wayof the Southern Tier has been working with local corporations to develop employee volunteer programs and offer monthly volunteer opportunities. All non-profit organizations are encouraged to submit projects to the United Way if they are in need of assistance.

In 2016, over 700 United Way volunteers contributed over 6,000 hours to our community equaling animpact of over $220,000.00.
