Tour de Keuka 2025 honors charity bike ride's co-founder

July 22, 2025:

Tour de Keuka, a scenic charity bike ride around Keuka Lake that benefits United Way of the Southern Tier, celebrates its 20th year when it rolls out from the Hammondsport Fire Station on Saturday, August 2.

This year’s Tour de Keuka marks a special tribute to co-founder Jenny Rhoads, who passed away in 2017. The event’s longest route, a 100-mile challenge, will now bear her name in honor of her enduring spirit and contribution to the region.

“Jenny and I set out to make a difference, and she once told me if the ride didn’t raise at least $25,000 that first year, it wouldn’t be worth our time,” recalled Randy Rhoads, who co-founded the Tour de Keuka with his wife, Jenny. “That year, donations topped $30,000 — and we were all in from that moment forward.”

From modest beginnings, Tour de Keuka has grown into a beloved annual tradition. Cyclists from across the country travel to experience the breathtaking scenery of the Keuka Lake region on two wheels, all while supporting vital community programs for children, seniors, and families.

While the Rhoads family stepped back from directing the event in 2015, Randy, a resident of Penn Yan, continues as an advisor and participant. United Way of the Southern Tier now coordinates the event with support from a dedicated team of advisors and nearly 100 enthusiastic volunteers. Kennedy Valve serves as the title sponsor for the 2025 event.

“Cyclists come from all over the country to ride the Tour de Keuka, and we are grateful that so many return year after year to enjoy the region and support our community,” said Maleaha Smith, CEO of United Way of the Southern Tier. “Last year’s ride raised over $100,000, thanks to the dedication of our riders and the generosity of our sponsors.”

Participants can choose from four ride options — 45-, 60-, or 100-mile distances, or a virtual ride — and must commit to raising a minimum of $150 in donations.

Registration is $65 until August 1. Day-of registration is $75. All riders receive an event T-shirt and finisher gift, while those raising $350 or more will also receive an exclusive 2025 Tour de Keuka cycling jersey.

Riders enjoy a fully supported experience, including breakfast, lunch, rest stops, and vehicular support throughout the day.
