United Way of the Southern Tier invests $1.95M, announces community survey
Sept. 23, 2025:
United Way of the Southern Tier is investing more than $1.95 million in 69 local nonprofit programs this year and seeking public input on the community’s most pressing needs.
“Several years ago, United Way of the Southern Tier shifted its focus to supporting children, seniors, and individuals in crisis based on community feedback,” said President & CEO Maleaha Smith. “Community needs evolve, and we’re once again asking local residents to share their input so we can respond to what matters most.”
Chemung and Steuben County residents are asked to take this short online survey. People who complete the survey can be entered into a drawing to win a $100 gift card of their choice.
“When we come together to address issues, we are stronger and can creative positive change,” Smith said.
More than 4,000 local individuals, employees of area businesses, and corporate partners came together last fall to donate in support of United Way of the Southern Tier’s focus areas, resulting in the following investments for programs serving children, senior citizens, and people in need:
• Southern Tier Kids on Track (early childhood programs): $657,310
• School-Age Programs: $250,115
• Senior Support Network: $454,742
• Basic Needs Network: $529,464
• 2-1-1 Helpline & Community Volunteer Programs: $61,332
