Slot car club raises $265 for the 2011 United Way campaign

The 2011 Community Campaign is off and running, thanks in part to local slot car racing enthusiasts.

The United Way 250 slot car race, held April 30 at the Slot Car Club of the Twin Tiers (SCCOTTT), raised $265 for the 2011 campaign. This total includes proceeds from an online auction of racing memorabilia.

Funds raised at this event will be invested in health and human services programs and initiatives in the 2012-13 fiscal year.

United Way thanks Frank Spena, Dave Hendrickson and Dave Van Duzer from SCCOTTT for organizing the event; Jim Kupstas and Butch Leitzinger for donating items for the auctions and raffles; and the following racers for their participation: Dave Hendrickson, Mike Herman, Jamie McGarry, Matt Metcalf, Robert Pellett, Jeff "Hoss" Phoenix, Jamie Vershay, Larry "Dream" Weaver and Gary Weber.

Race winner Gary Weber and runners-up Dave Hendrickson, Larry Weaver and Jamie McGarry received race certificates, and all participants received a Live United T-shirt.

Other community groups interested in special event fundraising to assist United Way should contact Kristin Butler at (607) 936-3753.
