United Way of the Southern Tier's Retiree Program gives your former employees another outlet to remain active in the community and part of your organization. As retirees, they are a part of one of the fastest growing segments of our population.

Benefits of a Retiree Program:

For United Way:

  • Helps offset the financial losses incurred through the cancellation of employee pledges due to retirements, terminations, layoffs, etc.
  • The Retiree Program has proven successful in increasing the number of contributions to campaign.
  • It can stimulate former employees into volunteering their services to United Way and its community partners because of their increased knowledge about the services and programs provided.


Starting a Pre-Retirement Program

  • Train your Benefits Counselors on running a pre-retirement campaign. United Way staff members are available to help develop and present information.
  • Solicit retirees during exit interview or before the employee leaves, using assembled Retiree Folder with a personalized pledge form,  CEO/Retiree endorsement letter and retiree brochure.
  • Provide a pension deduction plan to make giving easy.

Starting a Post-Retirement Program

  • Identify your retirees
  • Send a letter with a personalized pledge form to retirees inviting their participation
  • If you can't start a program in-house, you can provide an annual list of retirees to United Way to solicit
