Appointments available for United Way’s free tax assistance program
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
2-1-1 Helpline has begun scheduling appointments for CA$H (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope), a free tax assistance program for working families that make generally $49,000 or less annually.
CA$H volunteers are fully trained and certified by the IRS to complete both federal and state returns. Volunteer preparers can also help families find tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, that they may miss when filing their own taxes. Clients can utilize free e-filing, which allows most to receive their refund more quickly than when filing a paper return.
Tax preparation sites are located throughout Chemung and Steuben counties, and in Schuyler County. Appointments are available week days, week nights and some Saturdays, depending on location.
When you receive all of your W-2s, call 2-1-1 Helpline for an appointment by dialing 2-1-1 or (800) 346-2211 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 2-1-1 Helpline’s referral specialists will help you find the appointment time and location that is most convenient for you, and tell you what to bring to your appointment.
CA$H is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Internal Revenue Service, Stakeholder Partnerships, Education and Communication (SPEC) Division, and Bank of America. The full list of community partners is included in the box below.
