Nominations Sought: Errol Shand Award

CORNING, NY, March 10, 2008 – United Way of the Southern Tier is seeking nominations for its annual Errol Shand Award for exemplary service.

The Errol Shand Award for Volunteer Service was created to publicly recognize those outstanding volunteers who have served or are serving in Chemung and Steuben Counties. The award will be presented at United Way’s Annual Dinner, April 30th at the Radisson, Corning NY.

Last year the award was presented to Robert and Patricia Gilchrist.

The award is named for a former Corning Glass Works engineer who left a bequest to the United Way in his will. By action of the United Way Board of Directors, the funds were invested to provide annually for this award recognizing Mr. Shand and volunteers like him, and to encourage volunteer service. The award has been presented since 1975.

The nomination deadline is Friday, March 21.
