How Decisions Are Made
Sound, volunteer-driven decision-making is an operating principle of United Way of the Southern Tier, its Board of Directors and Community Solutions Committee.
Thoughtful and deliberate decisions are made by volunteers representing various sectors from across our two-county community who have knowledge and expertise related to specific areas of impact. The impact team review process assures thorough consideration of each applicant's proposal. Full and equitable consideration is given to each organization in light of the needs of all applicants, the needs of the community and the resources available.
The information requested in the Request for Investment application is directly related to the essential investment values identified by United Way volunteers and the Board of Directors that consider the client need; the program’s demonstrated ability to achieve positive results for the people it serves; how well the program aligns with our mission, vision and strategic intent; how effectively the program uses resources to achieve the desired results; and its efforts toward continuous learning and program improvement.
These values reflect the fundamental information about any program or service, as well as factors that are important to United Way and to the community.
Investment decisions reflect these values and are outlined in the Program Ranking Worksheet.
